Winter is the perfect time for dressing your home's windows in the bounty of the season. From fragrant pine to fresh red berries, there's no shortage of natural materials to choose from this time of year. Or, if you prefer a more modern look, there are a wealth of man-made materials to dazzle guests and passersby alike.

Here are a few of our favorite ideas for decorating your windows throughout the winter months:

White lights hung across a window.Hang white lights across your windows to maintain a warm, happy glow all season long.

Get hygge with it
Although Florida temperatures don't dip nearly as low as they do in Denmark, you can still incorporate elements of hygge – a Danish word that signifies feelings of coziness – into your home this winter. The simplest way to add warmth to a space is to add texture. Drape a chunky knit blanket over the sofa, place a faux-sheepskin rug on the floor and don't forget about the windows: Hang sheer white curtains and attach strings of fairy lights to cast a soft, comforting glow.

Just add pine cones
For residents of the northern United States, pine cones are an everyday sight as well as an essential winter crafting supply. Order a bunch online and gather them into groups of three. Using long strips of white fabric, secure the pine cones by their stems, and hang each grouping in the center of your windows. To amplify the look, use an aerosol snow spray to frost each bundle as if they were just plucked from a magical wintry forest.

Add color with bright red berries
Red is a must on any winter color palette and for good reason: The hue pops against the otherwise drab backdrop of leafless trees, sunless days and pure white snow. A berry garland is simple to drape across any window frame and adds seasonal pizazz to your space with minimal time and effort. You could also purchase a double-sided pine wreath bedecked with red berries and hang it on the exterior side of a window to bolster both your indoor space and your home's curb appeal!

A touch of modern glam
If pine cones and berries are a bit too rustic for your sensibilities, consider accenting your windows with monochromatic hanging stars. We love pairing different shades of white—or mixing neutrals like white, silver and gray. Alternately, if you have a wide window in your home, consider hanging a long string of large Edison lightbulbs across it for a playful look that injects warmth and personality to a room. If you feel like getting crafty, thread cotton balls on lengths of invisible thread and hang vertically to give the appearance of dancing snow across glass.
